The KÖRPERSTIMMEN series is being presented for the seventh time this year by Podewil in cooperation with TanzWerkstatt Berlin. Audiences can look forward to a new, varied, and international program of dance and performance every spring. The series is a showcase for current work by artists whose development has been followed by TanzWerkstatt for a longer time and for projects by artists-in-residence at Podewil. A major goal in this context is the cooperation with international partners and the initiation of co-productions. The spring series at Podewil is an important complement to the larger international dance festival, "Internationales Tanzfest Berlin", which is jointly organized by TanzWerkstatt Berlin and the Hebbel Theater every summer.
This year's program, KÖRPERSTIMMEN N°7, shows a particularly impressive mix of local and international work. The main focus is on fostering strong ties between the international scene and Berlin. Of the six productions shown this year, Podewil acted as co-producer and as artistic adviser on three. The series will present two productions receiving support from the European network, APAP (Advancing Performing Arts Project), to which the Podewil also belongs. APAP receives funding from the European Union and is supporting seven artists in 2002, including Sachiyo Takahashi and Philipp Gehmacher. This year's program is supplemented by informal work-in-progress showings.
As in previous years, KÖRPERSTIMMEN boasts well-known names such as Meg Stuart/Damaged Goods, new names such as Sachiyo Takahashi and Philipp Gehmacher, and the scene's shooting stars such as Thomas Lehmen and Mårten Spångberg. All the artists pursue their own, stylistically very different approaches, and yet the series is reflects two fundamental discussions being waged in the world of contemporary dance: the school of thought focusing on movement and the body and the exploration of stage and performance concepts.
Körperstimmen N° 7 was curated by Ulrike Becker and André Thériault. |
