| _this year's model |
|
Thinking in movement is a basis for dance. Be it emotional or rational thinking, technical or intuitive, awareness is the bottom line. This is what guided our choice of this year?s teachers at Internationales Tanzfest Berlin. Antony Rizzi?s de-constructed ballet technique to House music, Tom Collins? Balinese Shaking to Techno, RoseAnne Spradlin?s raw sensual movement, Phillip Adams? re-construction of time and space and Xavier Le Roy?s thoughts on the whole matter compose the final mosaic.
The present is unfortunately a time of struggle for contemporary dance and performance in Berlin. The optimism we held last August has been replaced by an uncertain feeling towards a future which is being increasingly threatened by enormous budget cuts in the cultural sector. A city which one served as an example of intelligent artistic funding in Europe must now look to Brussels, Amsterdam, Bucarest and Tallin for productive models of support.
The atmosphere will however remain festive throughout August when we present the work of such groundbreaking artists as Davis Freeman, Lilia Mestre, Thomas Lehmen, Jan Ritsema, Jonathan Burrows, Constanza Macras and Meg Stuart.
We look forward to having you as our guests.
